Some other kind of illustration

I was told that 3 monsters need to go to an vacation. So they did. And they are good and well, relaxed in far far away land where is freedom and no viruses or enemies. All good.

I turn to my weakness in drawing and its name is color. Colors I adore. My favorite is every color in Universe. There is no less in my illustration coloring wise. I know one of design rule is to play as few colors as you can to make it POP. I’m like a horder who refuse to throw away things, just to make space or to clean place up- mission impossible.

For me the only way to practice is to make simple illustration where I can be less scared of having few colors. My brain refuses to go further than poster when I think about simple color palette, illustration can’t be complicated and have few colors. Again, it’s impossible. I admire people that can think in that way, less color more POP. Anyway, I made my poster – simple illustration, tried to keep them funny (-ish).. and color scheme I have chosen, safe colors, red and blue. White isn’t color. Right?! 🙂

So I’ve made a series of posters, some other kind of illustration. Simple. Simple is my new wave to ride. Till next adventure and new series ..take a look at posters – CLICK HERE. 🙂

Life simplified.

Life is sometimes all about simple things and complicated humans. We all have twists and turns in life, ups and downs. I had my parents apartment repaired after earthquake and when you start with that kind of project it always ends up with “There is more work that has to be done“. And when that line came up I wasn’t sure my budget will survive. But it did 🙂 Bit of luck is all you need to survive.

In that time I got short on photos to make illustrations on, so I went back to make new illustrations about every day situations. Simple white background with Bo and Om and the third purple monster with no name (hopefully soon I’ll find him a name..)

These series of illustrations I’ll hold on to for a while, they are relatable and funny and I like them. Hope you find them fun too.. 🙂

Photo illustration 2

This week was about monsters and friends. Friends that we are and monsters we held inside. Fear is a main obstacle, play is making most of your talent.

I’ve made series of Bo and Om with some new monsters, on photos of Croatian villages in Istria, Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Pelješac… places I’ve been last few years. I wanted to illustrate sequence of my childhood. Remember marbles? Pretend to be builder… or learning how to ride a bike. No matter where you are being a kid is about discovering world around you and developing skills.

Maybe it would be fun to make Bo and Om travel the world, like a Amelie’s garden gnome.. 🙂

Photo illustration

Last week I was doing a new little project a photo illustration. As I was finished with hate towards 2020. I tried to make something new. I had an idea long ago, to make illustration on a photo. Fist one that I’ve made was the one I’ve put in “About me” – where Bo and Om are cleaning my glasses. I’ve continued to make more photo illustrations.

Inspiration was everyday life and play. But it didn’t kick as I’ve expected. I think this series of illustration are not communicating to people as well as for example Advent ones. Maybe photo illustration is harder than it seams. What do you think?

I am making one more series right now, with a cohesive theme and maybe it will be better than first one. We’ll see. ‘Til than, click here to see photo illustrations. 🙂

PowerPoint animations

While back, before workshops, I was asked to make a promo for a client. It was a good offer, but I knew there is going to be a problem. I had no tools or knowledge to make animation. Thanks to Google and other internet lords, I found tutorials how to make animation in PP.

After I found few step by step tutorials, I’ve started my project – PP animation. Idea was to make a universe, planets, a rocket and small rocks. The main planet was client, others are like satellites. So after a while I did it, the animation was finished. Sound was from a site where you can find free audios. And in a week I have made my first animation in PP.

I liked it, client liked it, so I’ve made one more for promoting day of Open doors. It was a good way to communicate with public. Everyone loves animation, a happy tune…after all we are all kids inside. 🙂

Bo and Om destroying 2020.

It was 3 days after Christmas, earthquake again. It was like Earth farted, loudly, making a point that we are in a episode of Twilight zone. Point made, bones stiff, blood frozen, I’ve made illustration of Bo and Om waked up by earthquake.

It was an impact that brought up PTSP from March, but we all hoped that was it.. It’s last of this 2020. nightmare/shitty horror movie.
Day after was massive, long, noisy, ugly earthquake near Petrinja. Christmas joy died. People lost their homes, loved ones.. Horror.

But one thing was, still is, shining in the moments of darkness, human hearts. Croatians united quickly, gave their homes to ones in need, gave help in every way imaginable.

Grinch was on steroids but Bo and Om had their way to strike back. So they did, they smashed and destroy 2020. like 2020. destroyed all the joy, freedom and security.. 🙂

Bo and Om making Advent magic

As time of Christmas was close I’ve made daily illustrations. We all have our idea of Christmas spirit and how that time of year is special, so Bo and Om were my idea of Christmas spirit. Every week Bo and Om made something in advent tradition.

Every illustration was inspired by random quotes, songs and daily life in winter. Bo and Om were my extension to share magic that was kidnapped by pandemic. As numbers of ill and dead went up, my illustrations went more colorful. 🙂

Workshop – stop motion animation

After I finished illustration workshops, I went to stop motion workshop.

Stop motion animation workshop was so fun and difficult. People think stop motion animation is easy, animation in general is all about good plan, organization, small details and effects. As workshop went on, I’ve learned so much.. but lack of practice made me eager to work harder. Our teacher Luka Vucić, bless him, showed his work, all props and puppets, tips and tricks. So we got the idea what to make for our final work.

In the end of workshop I’ve made stop motion animation about how God made Earth. Idea was that God sneezed and his snot hit the planet.. and voila Earth was made.

Workshop time – illustrations

Few years back I’ve went to art workshops at Atelje na br.1. I’ve started with illustration workshop. It lasted for two month, we made illustrations in every possible media, and had freedom to make whatever we wanted. In the end of workshop we had to make our final work.

I had these two characters Eyed girl and Hairy potato and wanted to make a scene. Teacher gave me an idea to make diorama or space to look like theatre. So I’ve decided to make diorama in a shoebox. To make it a bit interesting I’ve put small led lamp inside. 🙂

I went to other workshops and made Ludo game and coloring book for kids and parents as my final work. It was a lot of fun making small personal projects. I’ve learned how to plan and make projects to last and have a story. 🙂

Bo and Om are born

Summer was so close I could smell heated dog shit in the air. Atmosphere in Croatia was ok. Zagreb was recovered from shock, but not from disappointment in institutions and mayor, but that wasn’t something new. Pandemic was under some control, people were happy – sunshine can do magic to humans.

It was hard to think new set of illustrations. I was reading the first book of the Gentleman Bastard, great book btw., and than it hit me. Boys always have fun, their friendships lasts, have adventures.. Why in a world I wouldn’t make 2 characters that would show all this wonderful things we share with best friend.

I knew many people illustrate these things and it’s already seen, but I had to do it for myself. Bo and Om as BOOM were born, yellow and blue creature, friends, a match made in heaven. They love life and consider to consume it properly.
